FACT SHEET
Emergency Food Assistance Program
January 2004
Happy New Year and thanks for your support through 2003! Although
our numbers of clients are not as great this month as in the past
two holiday months, we are still serving large numbers of individuals
and families. In comparing this month's statistics with statistics
of January 2003, the increase in need is evident. On December
24, 2003, The Sacramento Bee published an editorial, "How
to Fight Hunger," about the folly of repealing the new food
stamp law. **
| **Requests for emergency food assistance increased by an
average of 17 percent in the 25 cities surveyed for the report.
For families with children, the requests for food increased
slightly more, 18 percent. |
In spite of a "recovering" economy, food assistance
for the hungry remains great.
During the month of January, we served
..
· 1,905 clients (600 more than in January 2003)
· 1,198 adults
· 711 children
· 943 households (272 more than in January 2003)
· 232 households or 25% had not been to RCCS in the past
We are very grateful for your help and assistance, especially
through the holidays. Please remember our need for the following
food donations:
