FACT SHEET
Emergency food and Shelter Programs
February 2006
In February 2006, RCCS gave away almost 4,000 more pounds of
food than it did during the same month of 2005. One reason for
the increase is that RCCS gave each large family a whole frying
chicken and each small household a pound of ground turkey.
RCCS is now able to purchase meat on a monthly basis. The ability
to give our clients more protein has long been a goal of RCCS
staff. Thanks to the generosity of those who support RCCS, that
goal has been achieved.
And it is not just financial contributions that have allowed
RCCS to provide its clients with more protein. Every can of soup
donated is one less can RCCS needs to buy, freeing up financial
resources that can be allocated to the meat purchase program.
With your continued support, RCCS can continue to provide the
needy of Sacramento County with nutritious food.
Traditionally, food closet fare is heavy on starches (rice, pasta
and bread, which are inexpensive and easy to store), and light
on protein (meat, eggs and dairy products, which are more expensive
and difficult to store). So, while a chicken or some ground meat
may seem a small thing to some, to a single parent working as
a clerk or a senior on a fixed income, it is huge.
During the month of February, we served:
1,747 Clients
1,193 Adults
554 Children
858 Households
Total Pounds Distributed: 18, 811
Meals Provided: 23,203
Thank you for all you do to help feed the hungry in Sacramento
County!
