March 2006

Empty Bowls Charity Soup Luncheon a Huge Success!

Thanks to the 900 people-Gifted ceramic artists, community college and high school ceramics teachers and students, community sponsors, food sponsors, in-kind sponsors, River City Community Services volunteers and our 700+ guests-who made Empty Bowls 2006 a success. We know of no other Sacramento friend-raiser that draws volunteers and participants from so many different parts of our community.

The steering committee, headed by Cindy Keltner, reported that over $30,000 was raised to support the food and shelter programs at River City Community Services. This comes at such an important time. March was a very busy month, and we are preparing for higher numbers as spring and summer approach.

During the month of March, we served:

  • 2,274 Clients
  • 1,233 Adults
  • 793 Children
  • 1,067 Households (13% were new to RCCS)
  • 10 families were provided with 92 nights of emergency shelter

3 families were provided with rental assistance

    Total Pounds Distributed: 23,949
