Volunteer Position Description
Title: Food and Nutrition Educator
Responsible to: Executive Director
Purpose: To educate River City Community Services (RCCS) clients on how to prepare tasty, nutritious, and economic meals with food provided by RCCS
Responsibilities:
1. Develop curriculum and teach low-income clients of RCCS the basic concepts
of nutrition, to increase awareness of how to eat a balanced diet.
2. Develop recipes and curriculum to demonstrate how to prepare meals using
the food provided by RCCS.
3. Teach clients what staples to purchase, to supplement the food provided by
RCCS, to make tasty and nutritious meals.
4. Develop and teach tips on how to save money on food.
5. Prepare handout material for clients to take home with them.
6. The class content may be prepared in consultation with a small volunteer
task force.
7. The food and nutrition educator may appoint volunteer assistants to help
present the classes.
Qualifications: Teaching experience preferred. Nutrition, dietetics, food science and technology, or home economics degree preferred. Experience may substitute for an academic degree.
Time required: 1-2 hour classes should be offered monthly, in late afternoon or evening. Additional unspecified time required for curriculum development.
