HELPING THE MOST VULNERABLE

Seniors and the disabled on fixed incomes are especially vulnerable to rapidly increasing costs such as utilities and transportation. According to a 2006 study by America’s Second Harvest, Hunger in America, nearly 30 percent of households with seniors served by one of the organization’s food closets indicated that they have had to choose between food and medical care, while 31 percent had to choose between food and paying for heat/utilities.

In 2007, eight percent of RCCS clients were seniors (65+), a percentage which is growing.
